Things to do at Takakkaw Falls

Takakkaw Falls, in Yoho National Park, drops around 254 metres in total and ranks among Canada's tallest waterfalls. The access road, Yoho Valley Road, is narrow with tight switchbacks and closes from roughly late June to early October depending on snowpack, so this is not a winter or spring option regardless of what the main highway looks like.

Once parked, the walk to the base is short, a few hundred metres on level ground, manageable for most fitness levels and strollers with care. Flow is heaviest in early summer as snowmelt peaks, dropping off noticeably by September, so a visit timed for photos of maximum volume means June or early July rather than late season.

Yoho is roughly an hour west of Lake Louise via the Trans-Canada Highway from Banff.
