Things to do in Grotto Canyon

5 to 2 hours at an easy pace. The route follows a dry creek bed for much of the summer, narrowing into limestone walls before opening at a small waterfall. Ancient ochre pictographs, attributed to early Indigenous peoples of the area, mark the rock partway along and deserve a quiet look rather than a touch.

In winter the same creek bed carries a frozen waterfall that draws ice climbers and crampon-equipped hikers, but footing turns to solid ice and is not something to attempt in ordinary runners.
