Things to do at Emerald Lake

Emerald Lake is the largest lake in Yoho National Park, reached by a short paved road off the Trans-Canada Highway that stays open all year, unlike the road to Takakkaw Falls. 5 to 2 hours, crossing a fishing bridge at the trailhead and passing the Emerald Lake Lodge.

The colour that fills postcards is glacial flour suspended in meltwater, so it builds through spring and typically doesn't peak until June; visitors in May often find a still-frozen or dull grey-green lake instead.

Canoe rental runs in season near the lodge, and a Parks Canada pass (about 11 CAD per adult per day) is required for entry, on top of Kootenay's own limited summer parking.
