Things to do at the Royal Tyrrell Museum

The Royal Tyrrell Museum sits on the edge of Drumheller, about 300 km and roughly 3 hours from Banff, and it is not a roadside interpretation centre: it holds one of the largest dinosaur fossil collections on the planet, with galleries of mounted skeletons, a visible fossil preparation lab where technicians work on real specimens behind glass, and hands-on activities aimed at kids.

Plan on 2 to 3 hours minimum to see the main galleries properly. Summer is the busy season, with families filling the car park through July and August, so booking tickets ahead for that stretch is worth doing rather than risking a sold-out entry slot at the door.
