Things to do at Johnston Canyon

Johnston Canyon sits on the Bow Valley Parkway, 26 km from Banff, and is built around a catwalk of steel walkways bolted to the limestone gorge wall. 1 km one way on a mostly flat path and get crowded from mid-morning in July and August, with queues at the final tunnel viewpoint. 7 km one way, with more elevation gain and noticeably thinner crowds.

8 km one way, a set of cold mineral springs in an open meadow that most day visitors skip. In winter the walkways ice over and crampons or traction devices are close to essential, not optional gear. Parking fills early; a Parks Canada pass is required.
